🛠️ Perspex Splashback Installation Guide:
⚠️ Important Safety & Material Information
| Feature | Guidance |
| Gas Hobs | DO NOT install this perspex splashback directly behind a gas hob. The high, direct flame heat from gas burners will damage the material. For gas hobs, a minimum distance of 150mm from the nearest burner edge is required, or a non-combustible material (like glass or stainless steel) must be used. |
| Heat Warning | Yes and No. Perspex can withstand heat, but it can melt or bubble if the hob's burners are too close to the back wall. If your wall gets extremely hot when cooking, Perspex is not recommended. |
| Adhesive Warning | DO NOT USE glues containing acid (acid-cure silicone) or standard double-sided tape. These can react with the Perspex. Only use Neutral/Low Modulus Silicone or Solvent-Free Grab Adhesive. |
| Safety First | Always wear safety goggles and gloves during preparation and drilling. |

Required Fixings (Choose one method)
-
Screw Method: Perspex Spacers OR Mirror Screws (with suitable wall plugs).
-
Adhesive Method: High-Quality Solvent-Free Grab Adhesive OR Neutral/Low Modulus Silicone.
1. 📏 Preparation and Initial Inspection
-
Clean Surface: Ensure the wall area where the splashback will be installed is clean, dry, and free of grease or dust.
-
Mark Position: Place the splashback against the wall in its final position. Use a spirit level to ensure it is perfectly straight. Lightly trace the outline onto the wall with a pencil.
2. 🔩 Drilling Custom Holes (If Required)
Perspex Perfection: How to Drill Acrylic Without Cracking
If your panel is not pre-drilled, or you need to make holes for sockets or screw fixings, follow this guide:
-
Preparation: Secure the acrylic sheet firmly. Place a piece of scrap wood directly underneath the drilling area to prevent chipping.
-
Mark Spot: Apply masking tape over the spot and mark the hole location on the tape.
-
Drill Bit & Speed: Use a sharp drill bit suitable for acrylic. Set your drill to a low speed to prevent the material from melting.
-
Technique: Apply steady, gentle pressure. If drilling thick acrylic, consider drilling halfway from the front, then halfway from the back to prevent exit chipping.
-
Cooling: If the material heats up, stop drilling, allow it to cool, or mist the area with water.
-
Finishing: Gently smooth any rough edges with fine-grit sandpaper.
3. 🛡️ Fixing the Splashback to the Wall
Choose ONE of the following fixing methods:
Option A: Screw Fixing (Recommended for easy removal)
-
Mark & Drill Wall: If you drilled your own holes, align the panel to the wall markings and mark the screw positions onto the wall. Drill the wall and insert wall plugs.
-
Fix Panel: Hold the splashback up, aligning the holes.
-
Secure Fixings: Insert and tighten the Perspex Spacers or Mirror Screws. DO NOT overtighten, as this can crack the Perspex.
-
Finish: Apply the screw caps/covers for a clean look.
Option B: Adhesive Fixing (For a seamless look)
-
Adhesive Choice: Use only a Solvent-Free Grab Adhesive OR Neutral/Low Modulus Silicone.
-
Apply Adhesive: Apply an even coating to the back of the splashback. We recommend running a thick bead around the perimeter and vertical beads spaced 5-8cm apart across the remaining surface.
-
Position & Press: Align the panel with your pencil markings and press it firmly against the wall.
-
Secure: Use masking tape or temporary supports to hold the panel in place while the adhesive cures (refer to the product label for cure time, usually 24-48 hours).
-
Check Level: Immediately check with your spirit level to ensure the panel has not shifted.
4. ✨ Finishing and Sealing
-
Seal Edges: Use a caulking gun to apply a continuous bead of Neutral/Low Modulus Silicone Sealant along all four edges where the splashback meets the wall and the countertop.
-
Smooth: Wet your finger or use a smoothing tool to create a neat, professional seal.
-
Clean Up: Immediately remove any excess silicone or adhesive before it cures.
5. 🧼 Care and Maintenance
-
Curing: Allow the adhesive/silicone to fully cure before using the hob (check product labels).
-
Cleaning: Use only a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive detergent (like dish soap) and water.
-
Avoid: DO NOT use abrasive cleaners, scourers, harsh chemicals, or solvent-based cleaners, as these will scratch or damage the perspex surface.
